Anacostia River Explorers Boat Tour with NPS

April 22 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

National Park Week Commemorates the Centennial of Anacostia with a Twilight Boat Tour in collaboration with Anacostia Riverkeeper!

Celebrate National Park Week and the Centennial of Anacostia Park with an evening on the river with a NPS Ranger. This special event will depart from the Skating Pavilion parking lot at Anacostia Park.

Although Anacostia Park has been a park for 100 years and part of the National Park Service since 1933, many visitors are unaware of the importance of the park to our nation’s history. This twilight boat tour blends history and ecology in an entertaining narrative that stretches from the Ice Age to the present day. Rangers regal visitors with stories of the geology, explorers, naturalists and Civil Rights leaders that shaped the course of the river that flows through the Nation’s Capital. “Seeing the Anacostia from the water is one of the most meaningful ways to experience the river. Starting with Native Americans in log canoes, the river has been an artery for transportation, something that both separates people and brings them together.” says Vincent Vaise, Chief of Interpretation.

Binoculars are recommended as well as you never know what interesting birds you may see!
