Meet the Waterkeepers Chesapeake

There are 18 Waterkeepers in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed and the Maryland Coastal Bays, working to protect families by stopping pollution.

The Chesapeake Bay is a large body of water, 200 miles long, where salt and fresh water meet and mix. The communities connected to the Bay and all its associated streams and rivers make up the Chesapeake Bay Watershed, 64,000 square miles and includes parts of six states, New York, Pennslyvania, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. It is this area and the Maryland Coastal Bays that the Waterkeepers Chesapeake patrol.
